Is It Spring? And other Hot Air Things

It has been one roller coaster of a week here in Louisville.  On Friday we have 70 degree weather with both a beautiful sunny day and a deadly tornadic super storm.  Today we have upper 30s and snow:

While we all look forward to the warm spring winds and green sunny days here in Louisville, Artful Anthropology has created a new necklace that runs on hot air! The zeppelin has finally arrived!  The chocker is made of either leather or velvet with the zeppelin anchored in the center.  The necklace is light weight and does not restrict mobility, in fact it encourages it!

The Zeppelin is a unique piece that adds flair to your wardrobe, pair it with hot air balloon earrings and your outfit will be complete!

Party Trays Are Where It's At!

Lots of photos in this post, and I do mean A TON. We've made some gorgeous party trays out of old tea sets. Take a look!

Excellent for serving your party food

Each individual party tray has its own personality and charm as well as different functions. We had a lot of fun coming up with designs and different scenarios that could call for each of these styles.

Let me introduce the Heather: 

Perfect for tea cakes, cookies, cupcakes,
crackers and other flat party edibles.

This three tiered stand is ideal as a centerpiece to display your baked goods in style!

Each tray is unique, put together after careful contemplation over colour and shape.


No two trays will ever look alike. That's the beauty of antiques!

The Heather is perfect for those flat edibles doomed to sit on a plain tray in a decorative circle or straight rows. Why not display your cookies and cakes in a more flattering way?





That's when we asked ourselves - Why stop at cookies and cakes?



And with that the Muriel was born.

Display your chips and crackers in style

This gorgeous display is perfect for cracker dips, salsa, hummus and any other goopy treat you can think of.

We make sure every bowl in this design is safe for warm dips such as queso.



However, we do not recommend putting the party tray into the microwave or oven.

With this design you can bring a little elegance to your Super Bowl party and still enjoy those nachos!
This particular design lends itself as a candy display as well.



We filled ours with M&Ms and Skittles in the top two tiers and placed fun sized Kit-Kat bars at the bottom.


The Imogen suits a different kind of dip need.

A beautiful display for veggies and light dips

With the tea cup on top, the Imogen is not built for those mass quantity dips. Instead it makes the perfect home for veggie dips and its three tiers are the perfect display for colourful vegetables.

This delicate display would brighten up any tea table or party array. Take the ugly plastic container out of the equation and use the Imogen!





Each tray is put together with an industrial strength adhesive that is waterproof, non-flammable and safe to put your food on. Take care in hand washing the pieces - they should not under any circumstances be put in the dishwasher.

Holding My Jewels in Style

Happy New Year!

We're going to start the new year off right with a couple of DIY projects we knocked out the week after Christmas. After examining the top of my dresser and seeing the jumble necklaces lying about I thought, "there has to be a better place for these." We had enough odds and ends sitting around to come up with something crafty-chic.

Necklace / Anklet Holder

This simple necklace holder is made out of a piece of wood and some painted nails. At first we were going to stain the wood and paint the nails with interesting colors and patterns. Instead I found a copy of Les Miserables that was so far beyond repair that I chose my favorite passages and we decoupaged them to the wood. Some black paint and a hammer completed the project. It's a very versatile project that you can personalize to match any room!

We didn't worry about getting the nails in straight,
the off-kilter look gives it a wimsy feel.

Our next project was to clean up all the earrings hanging around the place. I mean, we found earrings everywhere. What better place for a couple of crafters to keep their ear bobbles than an old embroidery hoop wrapped with delicate lace? No, really it's that simple. Open the hoop, stretch the lace inside, dab with a bit of glue to ensure it holds and viola - insta-earring holder.

Finally I found an old shallow basket to place all of our bracelets in that adds a finishing touch to the new jewelry center. Everything is in one place and can be easily matched instead of running from one room to the next looking for that necklace you saw yesterday or those earrings you know you left in the bathroom.

An added bonus to this whole venture? It was inexpensive and our home is tidier because of it. DOUBLE BONUS!

Picking the perfect bracelet for the day just became easier!

Careful, It's a Jungle Out There!

Hi-ho friends,

It was a wonderful Christmas for the ladies here at Artful Anthro. The best part? Giving our quality handmade gifts and watching little faces light up. However the aftermath of the holidays has us both drained and energized. (Weird combination - how can you be both!? I'm sure you're asking). Well, we've got a ton of new ideas swimming in our heads as we need to find homes for a few things. Drained because as I look behind me at the workspace it seems as if a major natural event has occurred and left the room a disaster zone.

So before I commence my holiday overhaul of our workspace I have a few friends I'd like to introduce you to:

Meet Rwar!

Rwar the tiger is a crochet pattern from Ana Paula Rimoli that has some minor modifications by us. He is on safari at his new home now and we hope he's very happy with his new pal!

Hello, My name is Squidy

This is Squidy the Octopus (are you going to argue with a 5-year old over the finer points of cephalopods?) With every octopus I make I feel as if they're legs get shorter and fatter each time. This particular specimen differs widely from those made in the past because her eyes are felt instead of safety eyes. My reasoning? I ran out of the giant ones I normally use. It must be time for a spread sheet of inventory, me thinks. Last I saw Squidy she was happily nestled between the Little Mermaid and her pal Sebastian.

Introducing The Penguin

This little guy was a bit frustrating to make. Don't get me wrong I've made birds before, you know the cute little song birds that tweet tweet on the branches - a penguin is not a songbird. While the basic pattern is from Ana Paula Rimoli, this bird barely resembles that pattern. His shape is all wrong, but you know what? I LOVE HIM! I actually like it better and find it to be a more believable penguin that what I set out to make. This little guy is cheerfully crashing Gotham City and taking on Batman now (no kidding, he stands as tall as the city).

We have a few more gifts, still living at home just waiting to meet their new owners so they'll be making their debut here soon as well as some new craft projects we've completed around the home. Tune in next week for more crafty fun!

There's Only One More Sleep til Christmas

....actually more like two or three but who's counting! (Everyone of course). Nothing better to put you in the xmas mood than A Muppet's Christmas Carol. This movie has seen a lot of wrapping and gift making over the past four weeks. In fact we sat down and tallied up how many times this movie is watched by us over the course of the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It averages 6 viewings, over that time period, in a year. The only other movie I have viewed into the dirt like that is The Sound of Music ( I went through 3 vhs copies of the film from age 3 to 8).

There won't be any postings of new items today, they're all top secret until after Christmas, who knows who could be reading this! I don't want to ruin any surprises. However I will say that we have quite a variety of products to display, so the long wait shouldn't disappoint!

In the words of Luann Platter, "Hold your babies tight."
